Lancaster Hempfield Rotary Project - tree trimming for the Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development.
On a hot and humid Saturday morning, five dedicated members of the Lancaster Hempfield Rotary Club rolled up their sleeves and put their muscles — and chainsaws — to work in the parking lot of the Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development. The crew tackled an overgrown landscape, giving five oak trees and one crabapple a much-needed trim.
Armed with four chainsaws, long and short loppers, rakes, and stepladders, the team worked efficiently and safely under the watchful eye of Tom, a Penn State Certified Master Gardener and the group’s unofficial “brains of the operation.” With Tom’s expert direction, the project went off without a hitch — unless you count the two full pickup truckloads of branches and leaves hauled off to the mulch farm!
Despite the summer heat and relentless humidity, spirits stayed high. The team kept well-hydrated, shared laughs, and enjoyed the camaraderie that comes with getting a little dirty for a good cause.
The service project is just one more example of how Lancaster Hempfield Rotarians put “Service Above Self” into action — one tree limb at a time.
